HP Backs Down On TouchPad

HP TouchPad owners, heed my call, you can rejoice now, money has not been wasted.

HP has announced that they will reduce the price of the 16gb iteration of the device to 99$ as a wipeout of the device. HP will also be refunding 100% of funds spent on the less than incredible, TouchPad for all those wishing to return their device. And for those who wish to keep heirs, you will receive the difference returned to you aswell, however we are not sure if the brick and mortar retailers will follow suit as it will present a significant loss.

Sadly this means that no more apps will develop for the TouchPad, no more bug fixes, no more updates, and yes, even suport will likely be abandoned with webOS.

Some may say that it should have been on the market longer, but I thing it’s had its tries. So next up I hope is an Android tab with similar specs! But till then, I think I may go get a 99$ 16 gb dual core tablet.

Come on RIM, think!

It’s starting to look like RIM is taking a dive, incomplete devices, broken promises of features yet to come, and now this!

What you’ll see at the link is RIM’s Torch 2 Fan Reviews. Only problem is, they feature phones in the video, which AREN’T the Torch 2! Watch at 0:15 in the video and you’ll see, quite specifically, an Android device! What’s up with that RIM? Why exactly are you advertising other phones now, it seems a bit counter productive don’t you think?

Research In Motion, When are you going to clean up your act? You were doing so well! The Curve, the Pearl, even the Bold and the Storm were all beautiful! what happened? You too a step back in hardware, and your software innovation is non-existent!  What happened to you?

I’ve said it once I’ll say it again… sell your stock while you can… RIM’s down and out.

fusionGarage’s GridOS Seems to Impress Even Skeptic’s

Hey all, I’d like to apologize for my absence yesterday, However I dug up a real goodie for today.

It's called Grid, and you ask me, it's here to stay.

Grid is a mobile OS based on Android, developed by fusionGarage . It runs Android apps, came from Android code, but it’s not android…

There are obvious differences from the popular mobile OS, even just looking at the lock screen. Compare, on Android’s tablet UI you are presented with a small circle and a clock, to unlock you simply move the circle in any direction a small amount and the device unlocks.

As you can see simple, too simple for me.

Not that I prefer complex, but simplify too much and you sacrifice security. With fusionGarage’s Grid, you are presented with something simple, yet secure. Something you do near every day.

You sign your name.

Simple, intuitive, secure.

You unlock your Android Powered Device and see this;

A soft, sleek, scrolling customizable home screen.

Easy on the eyes, and well designed. Lots of space. By moving your finger in a left or right direction on the screen, you can reveal many, many screens! In fact sometimes too many. I know even on an Android cell phone I sometimes found myself struggling to find more to fill my home screens. Five in total!

With Grid, that’s not an issue. They’ve removed widgets and just found ways to satisfy you with the experience they provide!

You have clusters.

A cluster is a grouping of applications of a corresponding theme (e.g. Social networking, music, movies)

You move around the home screen in two dimensions not one, from cluster to cluster, and you feel open but not obligated to use all of your grid space. Your home screen is like its own world. It’ll likely fill itself over time, and you even have an interactive map in the top corner to quickly travel to different clusters! Simple as a tap!

Now if you happen to own both the Grid10 AND Grid4 (mobile smart phone running same OS) you can actually sync the state of certain applications (such as a playing movie) on your Grid10, and continue from exactly where you left off on your Grid4! Games, movies and more can be synced and taken anywhere!

Even the apps you know and use on your Android Powered Tablet will run on your Grid1o as well!

I’m not one to rave on and on about one product as you guys know, but I think fusionGarage has its first official fanboy.

There you go. Any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section below, or by email at technical.confessions@gmail.com, on Facebook as Technical Confessions, or on twitter @techconfessions.

HTC Holiday Sold On Craig’s List

Rare occurrence seeing a leaked prototype on Craig’s list, but today heralded just that! Today the HTC Holiday was spotted and scooped on Craig’s list. Don’t worry pics WILL follow!

Specs are a very decent 1.2GHz dual-core CPU with 1GB of RAM on a 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540) display. Not to mention Android 2.3.4 and dual cameras consisting of an 8MP rear and 1.3MP front. Sadly in the images, the display is less than pristine.

With a branding through AT&T, It’s hard to tell the Canadian service, but I’ll guess Rogers.

Droid Viruses, Proceed, But With Caution

Many of you may not realize that, after computers, the largest market for viruses and malware is actually cellphones. The largest market for cellphone viruses (just like computers) is whichever is most popular! As you should know from this post here, the most popular mobile platform is android. meaning that like windows, it’s vulnerable to attack at any turn. I’m not saying don’t buy Android. Rather the exact opposite! If you like Android, buy Android, just watch for things such as this;

This is a Trojan Horse. The virus works on the same premise. A curse dressed up as a blessing.

“The fine folks at CA Technologies came across an interesting new trojan that does something slightly more unnerving than max out your credit cards — it records your conversations. “
The way I see it, these things have been around a while, seems a little daunting, but there ARE simple, fast solutions on the market, and even in your eyes. You can get anti-viral scanners for your android phone which scan EVERY file launched on your phone! However one of your best defences, READ THE PERMISSIONS! Always read the permissions before installing any new software, not doing so puts your device, your information, and now your conversation at risk!

Market Shares And Nike+ Contenders

Hey everyone!

I appear to have fallen asleep before finishing my post for last night. so here it is, late but present!

It's all here, clear and concise.

A study was released today indicating that ANDROID, not iOS, is officially the market leader! Only took 3 years. Android is sitting at a nice cushy 39% market share! While Apple slides down to 2nd place with 28% of the market still wrapped around its little finger! RIM’s sliding stocks don’t prevent a cool 3rd place with 20% share of the market! Congratulations Android, on taking the world by storm!

Honestly, I can’t even say I’m surprised, Apple has 4 devices, while the number of Android devices is likely in the hundreds, more variety, more sales. Apple I’m talking to you!

Tell me why in the comment section down below!

Fujitsu Finally Announces IS12T

This is the IS12T, and it will survive your toilet, and possibly your laundry!

Kira had written earlier about a possible august release of a WATERPROOf first release of a mango device, and surprise surprise, she was quite close! Looks like instead the release will be “September or beyond” according to the manufacturer, Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications (long name much guys.)

So all those nights of drink8ing will never again end with a wet, broken toilet phone. Instead, Imagine a wet WORKING toilet phone. Just makes you smile!

The safe to swim device will be equipped with the usual hardwares; Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR) and WiFi (802.11b/g/n). Along with a few beefy goodies like a Qualcomm’s MSM8655 CPU (clock speed unknown, likely 1 GHz), 13.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, and a possible 32 GB Internal Flash Memory for all your ample media.

If you wanna see this colorful, party friendly, machine in more detail here is the link.

And guys and gals, I just want to let you know, I’m working on a bit of a side project, the reason for my shorter recent posts. My apologies to those of you who enjoy my posts, but I assure you it’ll rectify itself soon enough.

RIM Cutting Back

From now on You shall be known as OLD NEWS!!

RIM, RIM, RIM, what are you doing with your life! Laying off 2000 people? Why? Because your unfair, unrefined parental surrogates can’t seem to make a good decision? You disappoint me!

RIM, I’ve said it once I’ll say it again… Shape up, Or ship out… It’s up to you!

Either get back to making phones that are a valid business solution (and not so easy to hack from the inside out.) Or start releasing products that are COMPLETE instead of half finished…

So to all my 10 or so readers out there, please pass this post around until RIM gets a hold of it! They need to be scolded!

Well guys, I wish I had more for you today, but it’s been a slow news week after that Apple release, so that’s today’s Technical Confessions. As always, if you like what you read here, please subscribe and ALWAYS comment!

OS X 10.7 And Sony S1 & S2

Sony Tablet Looking Powerful.

Sony’s S1 and S2 Tablets are coming! Sony has released a teaser (see the link below) for the two high-end siblings.

Teaser

Actually the teaser tells us more than you’d think. First off it shows the tablets not only running Honeycomb, but also running games from PSN, and HD video (Green Hornet). This tells us that It’ll be fairly high spec, which in turn tells us it’ll be a fairly high price point… I’d say based on previous Sony hardware around $500+ depending on model.

I’m betting, not only will they be trying to compete with other tablets, but also (with the dual touch tablet) the DS, so possible 3D support, or dedicated dual touch games. They are clearly marketing to the trendy crowd, based on the music, they’ll come pre-loaded with apps and a UI that reflect this. I’m expecting huge social networking integration!
And all this is JUST what’s in the teaser… excluding information given by Sony.
